GECAFS Partner Projects

A number of major initiatives are developing worldwide, which although not designed to address the GECAFS Science Plan per se, could make a significant contribution to and/or benefit from collaboration with GECAFS. In some cases collaboration could be enhanced by formalising such projects as GECAFS Partner Projects.

Such projects do not need to be financially large but must clearly address significant aspects of the GECAFS Science Plan and Implementation Strategy. There should be clearer potential benefit to GECAFS than that offered by GECAFS Forum membership (e.g. sharing empirical or conceptual results with GECAFS prior to publication for use in joint synthesis products).

Partner Project status will only be given to a project by decision of the Executive Committee, after extensive dialogue and negotiation between GECAFS IPO staff and the potential Partner Project. The selection procedure will ensure that the potential Partner Projects are judged on merit, that only the most suitable Partner Projects are chosen, and that a mechanism exists to identify and refuse projects that are unsuitable as Partner Projects.
